Ohio-West Virginia Football Jamboree Continues to Grow


A bigger and better Wheeling Hospital Football and Band Jamboree will be held next Friday and Saturday at Wheeling Island Stadium. Event organizers have announced that the second year, which features high school football teams from Ohio and West Virginia, event has grown from eight teams last year to 18 this year.

With more teams, the Jamboree will now be spread-out over two days instead of one. Friday's schedule features four games with Ohio teams and then five games on Saturday with schools from West Virginia.

Friday's Ohio action kicks-off at 1PM with East Liverpool playing Harrison Central, followed by Shadyside taking on Shenandoah at 3:10PM. Meadowbrook will square-off with Martins Ferry at 5:20PM with the nightcap featuring St. Clairsville and Cambridge at 8 o'clock.

Here's Saturday's match-ups...

11AM - Oak Glen vs Brooke
1:10PM - John Marshall vs. Tyler Consolidated
3:20PM - Wheeling Park vs. University
5:30PM - Weir vs. Linsly
7:40PM - Wheeling Central vs. Magnolia

Bluefield Reigns Supreme in West Virgina AA Title Game


57 was Bluefield's lucky number in the West Virginia Class AA championship game against James Monroe (12-2).

Bluefield (13-0) senior quarterback Will Cole threw two 57-yard touchdown passes in the third quarter to bring his team by from a 12-7 halftime deficit and beat James Monroe 20-12. It was the Beavers third Super Six win since 1994.

West Virginia Super 6 Preview


Wheeling Central will be going after a record-tying four straight West Virginia high school football championship when it plays Williamstown in the Class A championship on Saturday.

These two have meet in the last two title games with the Maroon Knights winning 35-20 in 2006 and 14-7 last season. Wheeling Central is trying to tie Moorefield's record of four straight championships between 1996 and 1999. Central's also riding a 32-game win streak.

In the AAA championship game Saturday Parkersburg will play St. Albans. Parkersburg will be playing in it's 14th title game since 1950 with seven championship trophies.

In AA, Bluefield will take-on James Monroe. This two met a month ago with Bluefield winning 14-7.
